The Ultimate Wedding Destination: The OceanCliff Hotel

The OceanCliff Hotel is steeped in history and transports one back in time to 1864 when it was referred to as the Bronson Villa, owned by Arthur Bronson of New York. As the years passed, the property was sold to the Hutton family of Baltimore and the family contracted McNeal of Boston to turn the villa into a handsome, gothic-style estate, built of brownstone with a corrugated iron-stone roof.  The estate remained a private summer home until 1954 when is was sold and converted into a hotel and restaurant.

I arrived on a glorious September late afternoon, with my Mom as my companion. As my car pulled around the drive and the hotel came into view, several words went through my head...glorious...castle...grand...and, "Oh, boy, I can't wait to explore this place!"

After popping the cork on our bottle of Champagne and toasting to our adventure, we headed out to explore the majestic grounds.

We were lucky enough to have arrived while there was a wedding taking place. I got to witness first hand how lovely the property is for a wedding venue and I can't recommend it ENOUGH FOR A WEDDING DESTINATION! You will not be disappointed - the proof is in the photos!

The gorgeous ballroom below sat beautifully prepped, silently awaiting the lovely newlywed couple and their loved ones to fill it's open space with a buzz with excitement, laughter and music.

OceanCliff is also home to  The Safari Room Restaurant and Lounge.  The Safari room provides an extraordinary dining experience both inside and out.

Mom and I were fortunate that the weather was agreeable for us to sit outside and watch the pink sun set over Narragansett Bay. The Hostess brought over heaters which kept us cozy.  After a very hectic week I felt myself unwind as I realized that this was exactly what the Doctor ordered.

I can't rave about The Safari Room enough. On top of providing a beautiful atmosphere, our waiter, Zach, was terrific, giving us recommendations and his undivided attention. We started with the Cheese Board, which is extremely popular, and now I know why... it is piled with finger toasts, crackers, brie, candied walnuts, fresh honeycomb, and fruit. It's truly a meal in itself!  Mom and I both ordered the filet mignon and mashed potatoes. I have dubbed the filet 'the best in Newport.' It is so tender that you don't even need a knife and it literally melts in your mouth. Since we had already indulged, (and it was my birthday weekend, the perfect excuse), we decided to split a dessert. I don't think you can go wrong with any choice in this department. It is dessert after all...

Our room was huge and the bed was super comfy, a big plus in my book. Who wants to go away and then not be able to sleep? Not I. The bathroom was also huge and stocked with luxurious amenities.

The entire hotel management and staff gets an A+ for outstanding hospitality - we truly felt like royalty. Not only is this a wonderful wedding destination, but it is a romantic getaway for couples, as well as a premier dining experience for anyone visiting or living near the Newport area.
